Brownies and Chinese New Year

Updated: Feb 8, 2022

Got to start the new year right with baking my first batch orders for my relatives, and selling another sweet batch of success.

The year of the tiger was coming up at some point, and I'm taking a baking class, my mother ran a sari-sari store in the Philippines a sari-sari store is smaller, and it's just like a regular grocery store except we're not as big as a large Grocery Store in the US nor are we Amazon. I know at this point that I'm writing that this is one of the first few weeks of The Ghost Corner Bakery and I started selling brownies the brownies were given as part of a baking class homework.

Now my relatives only found out that I was selling some baked goods which are the brownies. Then they decided they wanted to order some of my brownies because family members are supportive of each other and all that other stuff. So my dad posted pictures of me selling brownies on our family chat and everyone decided to order some brownies. Since everyone was ordering and all because they wanted some more and wanted to support me.

I was originally going to bake brownies on a Saturday since that would be a good time to bake, but since the brownies need to be frozen for two days before baking, I must bake on Monday. Monday is generally a school day and my parents' wedding anniversary celebration is coming up it's also my grandparents' celebration is coming up, and it's one big celebration. I decided to bake on Chinese New Year. After all, stores and restaurants still have work and holiday pay, so I thought it might be a good idea. My dad decided he’ll do some delivery the next day, which is Wednesday, so I just went forth with Sunday baking.

So I made the thing with brownie mix and just followed the recipe on it. It took maybe two hours to make ten batches of brownies which is just making the dough alone since for me making the dough is the easiest and all, my dad just bought some mixing bowls, but we didn’t use it till the end of session of baking and all. My dad still need to wash the mixing bowls, but we used regularly the two large bowls we used for baking. Other than that, we baked on a Sunday, and it took possibly two hours to get all the dough together since I was baking around 10

batches of brownies. But it was worth it, mixed the brownie mix with eggs and butter and repeat until we're done. During one of the batches, one of my clothes got messy due to mixing in a very small bowl at the bottom (that wasn't designed for mixing) and due to the mixer mixing and the small bottom my clothes got really messy, and my shirt was covered in brownie dough.

After mixing all the brownie batches, it goes straight to the freezer (don't ask any questions). I sometimes call the freezer the hotel, since before baking I put the dough in the freezer with an exemption of a couple of recipes (because freezing won't do any good for them) so the brownies gets pulled on the freezer for two days. I won't be mentioning what I did on the celebration or the day of my parents' and grandparents' wedding anniversary.

So fast-forward to Tuesday and I get up of course and thawed the brownies there were 10 batches right out of the freezer. I waited till the brownies were ready to bake, so there's an additional waiting time of thirty minutes for thawing, then after thawing I sprinkled them with nuts maybe pulled around 20 crushed nuts by hand. Then put them in the Brownie Mix. After putting them in the Brownie Mix that goes into the oven and I computed some pricing for my relatives while waiting, then did some packaging for everyone and read some books. It honestly took a bit of the morning and the whole afternoon to bake for everyone, since the brownies need to be in the oven for 30 minutes.

I relaxed for a bit, then baked the last batches of brownies. My mother helped packaged everyone's brownies and all, then I delivered them to everyone, then I sold some brownies in the Sari-sari store some people bought and someone did a bulk buy and right now it's sold out. This is my second time making brownies anyway, so It's really nothing new, then some of my relatives ordered and talked about it tasting moist and soft and all.

There was dinner in the garage for Chinese New Year which my uncle just got some fast food a bucket of ChickenJoy from a very popular fast-food restaurant in the Philippines and that restaurant is called Jollibee ChickenJoy is usually just a bucket of Jolibee's chicken there was also Palabok and Spaghetti as well as a bucket of fries to celebrate the Chinese New Year. There were also some soft drinks during the celebration of Chinese New Year, specifically just Coca-Cola.

Did I mention that my dad delivered the brownies the following day? So my relatives tasted it the next day, my teacher who also ordered loved it and called it the best brownies. My relatives enjoyed the brownies. While I'm not a believer or into astrology, zodiac signs or whatever, maybe this Chinese New Year is the year and day to start a new maybe it'll be the day or 2022 I'll fondly look back on once this pandemic is over.

Well this was a blog post to talk about the second batch of brownies I made for Chinese New Year with Brownie Mix, after a while I don't think it's feasible to bake and sell Brownie Mix Brownie someday I'll be selling brownies from scratch which Brownie Mix is just a stepping stone to continuing this side hustle for now I'll just continue selling Brownie Mix brownies and try to experiment a little more recipes hopefully in an attempt to grow my customer base.
